Collection Summary
Administrative Information
Mix of some originals and some copies.
Alva J. Niles was not only a leader, but a military man having served in the Spanish American War as well as in World War I. He re-enlisted his services for World War II, but was not accepted. He helped create the Oklahoma National Guard and served as its head. He obtained the rank of Major General and during World War II was commissioned a Major. His papers are mostly regarding his military career. The files contain newspaper clippings detailing his life and military career and letters of commendation for his service.
He was also a Shriner from Tulsa, where he lived most of his life. He was involved in the Shrine Temple in Tulsa, the Temple in Guthrie, and the State Blue Lodge in Guthrie. Niles also had business regarding banking at various banks near OK as well as in Tulsa. Niles died in Guthrie on January 5, 1950.
