At the Pawnee Bill Ranch in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the legacy of the American bison continues today. The property owned by Wild West showman Gordon W. "Pawnee Bill" Lillie and his wife May includes the Lillie's home with original furnishings, a museum, and is a working ranch. Oklahoma Historical Society staff continue the tradition that began with Pawnee Bill in 1902.

Pawnee Bill's respect and reverence for the bison came at a time when it was needed most. The decades prior saw the near decimation of the bison, and Pawnee Bill's efforts to protect them are still evident on his ranch today.
