V. D. Mitchell

Gunnery Sergeant V.D. Mitchell, US Marine Corps (Ret.), served in Marine infantry in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

During his service he was awarded three Purple Hearts. In 1954 he achieved rifle Distinguished Marksman and Distinguished Pistol Shot. He retired with 20 years service in 1964 , and in 1967, was called back to active duty for Vietnam.
