Cpl. Harold L. Turner, Company F, 142nd Infantry, 36th Division, was awarded the Medal of Honor for action near St. Etienne, France, 8 October 1918. Cpl.
Turner, leading a patched together platoon until his unit was decimated by German machine gun fire to only four soldiers, rushed forward with fixed bayonet and charged the position alone capturing the strong point with a complement of 50 Germans and 1 machine gun.
